Dirk Geiger⁠ delivered another perfect result at the Nürburgring, taking pole position and winning both EURO MOTO Supersport races for Team APRECO⁠. After a weekend that initially required some setup work, Geiger and his crew found the right direction and turned it into maximum points with the Yamaha R9⁠.

The Nürburgring round started one day earlier than usual with an additional test day on Thursday. Overall, the Eifel delivered stable and mostly dry conditions, with only Q1 on Saturday morning affected by a wet track before conditions improved again.

With plenty of spectators around the circuit and a well-attended gridwalk, the Nürburgring once again provided a strong motorsport atmosphere.

Thursday test helps find the right direction

Despite ultimately dominating the weekend, the start was not completely straightforward for Geiger.

The additional test day on Thursday gave the team valuable time to understand the direction they needed to take with the setup, even though Geiger was not immediately satisfied with the package.

“The weekend went really well overall. At the beginning we struggled a little bit, so having the extra test day on Thursday definitely helped us to find a direction and understand where we needed to go.”

Progress continued on Friday. Geiger and his crew found improvements, although consistently extracting the full potential from the setup remained a challenge.

After further analysis on Friday evening, the changes paid off. Geiger finished the combined Free Practice classification in first position with a 1:26.640, 0.511 seconds ahead of teammate Lennox Lehmann⁠ and 0.598 seconds ahead of championship rival Daniel Blin.

“On Friday we found something that worked, but we couldn’t really put it together consistently. We analysed a lot in the evening, and on Saturday suddenly we were quite a bit faster. The race pace was exactly where we wanted it to be.”

Pole position for Geiger

With Q1 affected by the wet track on Saturday morning, the decisive qualifying action came once conditions improved.

Geiger immediately showed the progress made overnight and secured pole position with a 1:26.236.

It was another strong qualifying performance for Team APRECO⁠ , with Lehmann completing a Yamaha R9⁠ one-two in second, only 0.160 seconds behind Geiger. Blin qualified third, 0.497 seconds away from pole.

The front row therefore brought together the three leading riders in the championship for the first race of the weekend.

Race 1: A different challenge at the front

Race 1 presented Geiger with a different situation compared to some of his recent victories.

Instead of immediately opening a gap, Geiger found himself under constant pressure in the opening stages, with Lehmann and Blin directly behind him.

“Race 1 was a little bit strange for me. At the beginning I felt a bit lost, but I was still able to keep the lead with Lennox and Daniel right behind me. It was a new situation because in the previous races I had often been able to pull away immediately.”

Geiger remained patient and gradually found his rhythm. Around the middle of the race, his pace improved and he was finally able to break away from the riders behind.

Once the gap had opened, Geiger managed his advantage until the chequered flag and secured another victory.

Race 2: Controlled from the beginning

On Sunday, Geiger was determined not to repeat the difficult opening laps from Race 1.

A strong start allowed him to immediately establish his pace and begin building an advantage at the front.

“Race 2 was even better. I had a good start, made the passes immediately and didn’t sleep through the opening laps like the day before. I could put in good lap times straight away.”

Geiger eventually established an advantage of around four seconds and was able to control the remainder of the race.

After 16 laps, he crossed the finish line 3.148 seconds ahead of Lennox Lehmann⁠, who secured second place for another Team APRECO one-two. Blin finished only 0.094 seconds behind Lehmann in third.

Geiger also set the fastest lap of the race with a 1:26.090.

“Once I had around four seconds, I could manage the race. In the end it was about three seconds and I was able to bring everything home perfectly. A huge thanks to the team and to Yamaha Germany. It looks very good heading into Hockenheim.”

27-point championship lead heading into Hockenheim

The Nürburgring double has further strengthened Geiger’s position at the top of the EURO MOTO Supersport championship.

With two more victories, Geiger now has 243 points. Daniel Blin remains his closest rival with 216 points, giving the Team APRECO⁠ rider a 27-point advantage heading into the season finale at Hockenheim.

For Geiger, the Nürburgring therefore delivered everything he could have asked for: pole position, two victories, maximum championship points and an increased lead before the final round.

After initially having to search for the right setup direction on Thursday and Friday, the development work with the Yamaha R9⁠ once again translated directly into results when it mattered most.
