Challenging weekend despite strong pace
The second round of the EURO MOTO Supersport season in Brno proved to be a demanding weekend for Dirk Geiger and Team APRECO.
Despite arriving with strong expectations, Geiger struggled from the beginning to fully connect with the feeling aboard the Yamaha R9 , while rider and team searched for the right setup direction.
“Overall, it was a tough weekend for us,” Geiger explained. “From the beginning we struggled a bit to really get the feeling.”
Despite the challenges, Geiger still showed strong pace throughout the weekend and remained competitive at the front.
“The team did a great job supporting me,” he said. “But unfortunately, we couldn’t really find the right answer.”

Strong qualifying despite difficult feeling
Even without feeling completely comfortable on the bike, Dirk Geiger delivered a strong qualifying performance and secured P2 on the grid with a lap time of 2:01.628, missing pole position by just 0.169 seconds.
The result once again confirmed the potential of the package and placed Geiger directly into the fight at the front for both races.

Front tyre struggles limit Race 1
Race 1 quickly turned into a difficult challenge, as Geiger struggled heavily with front-end feeling and tyre degradation over race distance.
“In Race 1, I struggled massively with the front,” Geiger explained. “It was difficult to keep the pace while also trying to save the tyres.”
As the race progressed, front tyre performance dropped significantly, limiting his ability to fully attack.
“Unfortunately, the front tyre completely dropped off,” Geiger admitted.
Despite the difficulties, Dirk Geiger still secured P2 in Race 1, finishing 3.327 seconds behind the winner, while setting a fastest lap of 2:01.535 - faster than the race winner.

Fighting for victory in Race 2
For Race 2, Geiger and the team found improvements that delivered a noticeably better feeling aboard the Yamaha R9.
“Race 2 was definitely better,” Geiger reflected. “I had a much better feeling and could save the tyres while still maintaining the pace.”
The improvements allowed Geiger to fight at the front throughout the entire race and stay in contention for victory until the final lap.
He crossed the line in P2, missing victory by just 0.051 seconds, while setting a fastest lap of 2:01.981.
“In the end, I could fight for the win this time, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough,” Geiger admitted.

Staying firmly in the championship fight
Despite the difficult feeling throughout large parts of the weekend, Brno still delivered another double podium and important championship points.
With 80 championship points, Dirk Geiger currently sits second in the overall EURO MOTO Supersport standings, just 20 points behind the championship lead.
“We keep pushing and will attack again in Most,” Geiger concluded. 🏁
