Lennox Lehmann⁠ continued his consistent EURO MOTO Supersport season at the Nürburgring, showing strong pace throughout the weekend and securing another podium for Team APRECO⁠.

An additional test day on Thursday gave Lehmann and his crew valuable time to work on the setup of the Yamaha R9⁠. After qualifying second alongside teammate Dirk Geiger⁠ on the front row, Lehmann remained part of the leading group throughout the races and concluded the weekend with second place on Sunday.

Extra test day provides valuable setup time

Unlike a regular EURO MOTO weekend, the Nürburgring schedule included an additional test day on Thursday.

For Lehmann, the extra track time provided an important opportunity to experiment with setup changes that would normally be difficult to evaluate during the limited sessions of a race weekend.

“The extra test day on Thursday helped me and my crew quite a lot. We could try a few things that you normally just don’t have the time to test during a race weekend. We collected some useful data and then continued working in the direction we liked.”

The work continued into Friday, with Lehmann immediately establishing himself near the front of the Supersport field.

He finished the combined Free Practice classification in second position with a 1:27.151, 0.511 seconds behind teammate Geiger and 0.087 seconds ahead of championship contender Daniel Blin.

APRECO locks out the front row

Saturday morning’s Q1 session was affected by the wet track, but conditions improved later in the day and allowed the riders to return to dry-weather pace.

Lehmann continued the progress made during Thursday and Friday and secured second position on the grid with a 1:26.396.

Only 0.160 seconds separated him from pole-sitter Geiger, giving Team APRECO⁠ and the Yamaha R9⁠ a one-two at the front of the grid. Blin completed the front row in third, 0.337 seconds behind Lehmann.

Race 1: front tyre limits the fight

Starting from the front row, Lehmann was once again part of the battle at the front.

Together with Geiger and Blin, he pushed to stay with the leading pace. However, maintaining the required lap times put increasing stress on the front tyre. As the race progressed, Lehmann began to struggle more with the front and was unable to maintain the same pace in the closing stages.

“I struggled a bit in Race 1 with the front tyre. I was pushing the front too much to make the lap time and stay with the leaders. After around ten laps, I started to struggle.”

Lehmann eventually crossed the line in third position, behind race winner Geiger and second-placed Blin, adding another podium to his season.

The experience also provided another clear direction for Lehmann and his crew ahead of Sunday’s second race.

Race 2: back on the podium

For Race 2, the team made another setup change to improve the balance of the R9.

Although Lehmann still experienced some issues with the front, the changes represented a clear step forward and allowed him to remain in the fight at the front.

While Geiger established an advantage and controlled the race, Lehmann found himself in a close battle with Blin for second position.

After 16 laps, Lehmann crossed the line in second place, 3.148 seconds behind Geiger and just 0.094 seconds ahead of Blin.

The result completed another one-two finish for Team APRECO⁠.

“For Race 2 we made a solid step with the rear. There were still some issues with the front, but by working on it we improved the situation. For Hockenheim, we’ll try to make another step in the right direction.”

The hunt for a first victory continues

With his two Nürburgring podiums, Lehmann remains third in the EURO MOTO Supersport championship with 176 points.

Throughout the season, the young German has repeatedly demonstrated the pace to fight at the front. At the Nürburgring, another front-row start and podium finishes in both races showed once again how close Lehmann is to turning that pace into a victory.

With only the Hockenheim season finale remaining, his target is clear.

“For Hockenheim, I’ll try to go for the first win of the season.”

The Nürburgring weekend therefore provided another positive step for Lehmann and the Yamaha R9⁠.

With additional data collected during Thursday’s test and further setup progress throughout the weekend, Lehmann and Team APRECO now head to Hockenheim with one clear goal remaining: the first EURO MOTO Supersport victory of his season.
