Nürburgring
At the sixth round of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Nürburgring, Yamaha Motor Germany officially unveiled the brand-new R9 for the first time. The bike is set to compete in the championship from the 2026 season onwards.
Interested teams can place their orders immediately to be fully prepared for the upcoming season. The all-inclusive price for the race-ready motorcycle is €46,229.00. As a special bonus, Yamaha will cover the entry fee for the 2026 IDM Supersport season, worth €6,230.00, for all buyers. This effectively reduces the actual investment to €39,999.00.
The R9 SSP has already completed an impressive debut season in the Supersport World Championship, continuing the success story of the legendary R6. We now want to carry this success over into the IDM as well. Four orders are already confirmed, but our aim is to see as many bikes as possible on the grid in the IDM Supersport class.
— Wim Vermeulen, Yamaha Marketing Manager
The plan is to have ten units of the R9 available for the 2026 season. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. All orders will be handled exclusively via the Motorradtke GYTR ProShop in Korbußen, which will also be responsible for spare parts supply throughout the entire season – not only for the R9, but also for the R1 and R7 models.
The first R9 SSP machines will be built in January 2026, meaning deliveries are expected to start in February. This gives teams the opportunity to begin testing at an early stage. In addition, from 10 to 18 March 2026, we will support the Bike Promotion tests in Valencia to assist the teams on site.

IDM Supersport rider Lennox Lehmann has already had the chance to test the R9 and compare it directly with the current R6. His verdict: “The difference is huge. The bike has incredible braking stability and delivers strong torque. I believe riders with very different riding styles can unlock its potential – something we’re already seeing in the World Championship. I’m really looking forward to seeing the R9 on the IDM podium next year and, of course, I hope to be part of that myself.”
